WrIEPS [Writing Intellectual, Exciting Poems is Sweet

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

I wrote a 1 act play and I had trouble deciding on what to write about. My first submission took heavy criticism and so I completely revamped it.

Justin Mann: Head crook

Dan: Driver

Steve: Justin’s sidekick

Jackie Mann: Justin’s wife

Teller: Bank teller

Real Estate Rep

Stacy: Neighbor

Bob: Agent

Introduction: Justin and Steve are going over the final details to the plan and Jackie is checking the weapons and Dan is driving talking on the phone. This is said to be their last heist, with plans to start over a new life afterwards.

Act 1

Scene 1

In Dan’s Van

Justin: [Hands Dan a brand new cell phone] Dan, after we finish we will give you a text message, throw this phone away after you get it

Dan: Got it. And I’ll come pick you guys up at the back entrance.

Steve: I can’t wait to make bank and finally pay off my family’s debts and raise my little girl in a good environment.

Justin: I know what you’re saying’ we have two little boys that need a better life.

Jackie: Yes we need to get a new home and pay off all the drug lords.

Steve: Are you guys still all about the drugs?

Jackie: [Angrily] No, what are you talking about we were never into drugs. We have to pay them just for living on their working streets.

Justin: That’s why we’re doing this to get out, start over no more crime no more drug lords. [Embraces Jackie] Don’t worry baby this one last time.

Jackie: No more crime after this, I want to settle down and raise our boys’ right.

Scene 2

Inside the Bank

Justin: [Screaming] Everybody get the f--- down! Any sudden moves and I will shoot you!

[The screaming silences as the customers jump to the floor]

Steve: [Jumps over the counter, speaking to the teller] Open this, and put the money in the bag!

Scene 3

Back in Dan’s Van with Money in the Back

[Group is celebrating with champagne]

Justin: That was too easy

Jackie: Yes, we can finally have a steady family no more of this s---. [Takes a swig of champagne from the bottle]

Dan: Lets get out of here before the cops get here.

Justin: Yeah that sounds good; when I wake up I want to be far away from this place. [Falls asleep]

Scene 4

In Westchester, Maine (a small town outside of Portland)

Justin: How much is this?

Real Estate Rep: After taxes roughly 500 thousand.

Jackie: [Jumping in] We’ll take it!

Real Estate Rep: I’ll finalize the paper work, how are we paying for this? Money transfer?

Justin: No, we have cash. It’ll be here in 15 minutes, will the paperwork be done by then?

Real Estate Rep: Ca-Cash? I mean yeah the paper work will be done in about ten minutes.

Scene 5

Inside the house just Jackie and Justin

Jackie: I can’t believe it worked, I can’t believe we actually got away with everything and settled in. This is so much better for our two lovely boys.

Justin: It’s the life I childhood town I wished I could have been brought up in. It’s perfect. The people here are so friendly and the school system is outstanding.

Jackie: I know I’m so excited for this life.

Justin: Me too babe. Me too.

Scene 6

At a neighborhood black party

Stacy: [Talking to Jackie] Hey you made it!

Jackie: Yeah I wouldn’t miss this for anything.

Stacy: Where are Justin and the boys?

Jackie: Oh, they’re on the way home from a baseball game they should be here soon.

Stacy: Oh that’s good. Want to grab some food?

Jackie: Sounds good to me.

Stacy: Has there been anything randomly gone missing around your house lately? Specifically your garage?

Jackie: [Puzzled] No why?

Stacy: Well since like two weeks ago things have gone mysteriously missing from people’s garages.

Jackie: Really? Like what things?

Stacy: Well Jeff’s power tools went missing last week. And Monday Ralphs toolbox went missing. Last night Joe’s car was stolen right out of his garage?

Jackie: [Nervously] We’ll it sounds like we have a problem, thanks for notifying me. I’ll tell Justin to lock it up tonight.

Stacy: No problem, just call if you have any troubles.

Jackie: I will and you do the same.

Scene 7

Insides Justin’s house

Jackie: [Yelling] How could you do this?! After saying you were done and everything!

Justin: Shhh the kids will wake, now what are you talking about?

Jackie: Stacy told me today that things have been “mysteriously” vanishing from peoples garage over then last half-month. One of the things happens to have been power tools and a tool set. Maybe that explains the whole garage renovation.

Justin: What are you talking about I bought those. Granted with stolen money but that’s beside the point.

Jackie: Oh yeah sure.

Justin: Want me to get the receipts babe?

Jackie: That’ll make me feel better.

Justin: [Hands over the receipts] There.

Jackie: These are hand-written?

Justin: Yeah? Haven’t you ever been to the hardware store? They hand-write their receipts.

Jackie: Do you mind if I hold on to these?

Justin: Uh.. sure just don’t lose them.

Scene 8

Jackie is home alone

Jackie: Hello?

Bob: Hello Jackie, I’m agent Bob Sanders with the F.B.I. [Flips down badge] I bet your probably wondering why I am here. That’s because we’ve been building a case against your husband for some time now. We know about the robberies we’ve been tracking him and know we have almost enough evidence.

Jackie: Why are you telling me this?

Bob: We want you to testify against him.

Jackie: Huh?

Bob: We know you were involved in some of the robberies, I can grant you amnesty if you agree to testify for us. You are the last piece of evidence we need.

Jackie: Can I get back to you on this? I mean it’s a tough decision.

Bob: I’ll need a response by next week, here’s my card. [hands her card]

Jackie: Okay

Scene 9

Justin and Jackie’s son’s birthday party

Open door

Stacy: Hey Jackie! Where’s the birthday boy? I hope he likes Lego’s.

Jackie: He sure does. Want to come with me to the kitchen to get the cake?

Stacy: Sure, I hope you got ice cream cake.

In the kitchen Jackie looks out the window across the yard to a neighbors yard

Jackie: Aw s---.

Stacy: What?

Jackie: Ah. Nothing. Um I’ll meet you outside I just have to go get something really quick.

Stacy: [Puzzled] Okay?

Scene 10

Justin’s rummaging through the neighbor’s garage

Jackie: [Yelling] Justin! What are you doing?

Justin: [Startled] Uh. Nothing

Jackie: That tears it Justin. Give everyone back their crap or I’ll turn you.

Justin: Then you’ll come down with me.

Jackie: I don’t care anymore. I stopped I learned. You couldn’t even do that for the boys, you selfish asshole.

Justin: [Cockily] All right then turn me in.

Jackie: Go back home to your sons birthday party

Justin: After I finish here

Jackie takes out her cell phone, dials a number

Jackie: I’ll do it.

Justin: You’ll do what? What was that? [Yelling] Jackie! Get back and tell me what that was.

Jackie walks back home

Scene 11

A few hours later

Sirens are going and three cop cars pull in front of the house. Jackie is sitting at the table with Justin and when he sees the cops he tries to run only to be caught by a cop in the back yard.

Jackie: I sure hope so.

Justin gets carried by agents passed Jackie and Bob

Justin: [Shouting] You stupid b----, you’re coming down with me. Why would you rat? I’ll see you later hon, in the cell right NEXT TO ME!
